Decent food, great fast Mexican food, good service. Not to expensive especially for lunch.

Modern-day Mexican food. This place was okay. Nothing I ordered completely excited me. I loved that they kept the chips and salsa flowing though. It was happy hour, so frozen margaritas were special priced. My margarita was strong and quite tasty (not too sour), so that was probably the most impressive item from the menu. I ordered the duck quesadillas and they were just okay. It's fried, so what can I say? Screwing up fried food is very difficult. Duck is one of my favorite meats, so I love to taste the meat, but it was masked by the seasoning, so it could have been chicken for all I know. If you order a sizzling platter of some sort, watch out because it can get pretty smokey. I don't often go out for Mexican food, but when I do I like to be wow'ed. Unfortunately, I was not excited. All entrees, even the one my friend ordered did not look like anything spectacular. To me, it's ordinary, but the portions were good, so if you are coming hungry, you will definitely get your fill.

Was able to walk in and get a seat without any fuss. The dishes for the money are a lot of food and overall high-quality. The ceviche was very good with lots of shrimp and fish. They seem to be known for their white caso dip and it is very good. We ordered the taco dish where you could choose the three tacos you wanted so we selected fish pork and beef - all were very flavorful and not too spicy. Service was quick and friendly. And dress is casual

Yeah, so, this place was a big let-down for me. We took the in-laws here to celebrate Grampa's birthday, and I left apologizing to them and promising we would take them to a better spot the next time they visit:( I gave it two stars since it wasn't absolutely horrible, but it was just extremely bland and underwhelming. My beef taco arrived a soggy mess on a pretty gross shell, and the shredded chicken in the flauta had zero flavor or seasoning whatsoever. Sadly, the tastiest option on our table appeared to be the chicken tenders I ordered my kids off the children's menu. They weren't even that great, but the battered, fried aspect gave them a bit more flavor than the other stuff we ordered. I really wanted to love this place since it is so close to our new home, but I just can't get on-board with it. I'm thinking we'll just drive a little down the way to Casa Maria or another joint to cure our Mexican cravings.

Cool place to go have drinks, eat some good food and listen to music on outside. The waiter was a nice guy and took great care of us. We will go back.

The food was decent, but I was very disappointed in the proportion sizes. I paid $9.25 for a pork burrito, and got something not much larger than a frozen burrito. Granted, it came with some soup, which was decent, but overall the place was overpriced.

I've been to La Carreta a few times and would have given 3 stars (I think the food is just "okay") if not for my great experience the last time I visited! First, it was happy hour so margaritas were only $4. Then, I couldn't decide what to get (the menu is kind of lacking in many vegetarian options). I really wasn't in the mood for standard cheese enchiladas or vegetarian fajitas, so the waitress suggested making a chimichanga and filling it with mushrooms, peppers, and onions. I took her up on her offer and I was very pleased with my dish! It was delicious and just the right size. I think it's so great when restaurants are willing to accommodate vegetarians (or special diets) and it really made me feel welcomed and taken care of. I will definitely be back! PS the salsa was super spicy and muy deliciouso!

Went to LaCaretta's on Bluebonnet for a family dinner it was the worst experience we have ever had. After having to wait 10 min even though there were tables available. They took us to the bar area where there were more drunks than you could count, drinking, cursing, yelling at each other. The floor was so dirty we had to step on salsa and chips. The chairs were wet and when we asked if they could wipe them the hostess dropped the menus on the table and walked away. The food was ok but not near as good as their restaurant on Gov't St. This is not a place we will ever go back to and I would never suggest it to anyone else.

Salsa today is fantabulous! Large chunks of onion and cilantro!!

Restaurant was very noisy due to rambunctious children. There is a new menu since our last visit which was hard to read in dim light. Tortilla soup was good but nachos were so-so. Hostess must have had a long day and was not particularly welcoming. We might go back again to see if this was just a bad night (after having eaten there many times). Not up to usual standards.

I left a horrible review previously. I gave the place 1 star for old food and slower than a turtle service. I decided to give the place another shot since I had no choice (friends made me come). The service was not near as bad. It was still slow and we had to ask for drinks more than once. This is a little improvement hence 2 stars. The food was really bland BUT HEY! it didn't look like it had been sitting out since lunch! Score! I got cheese enchiladas which had absolutely no flair. Just a tortilla and melted cheese...no seasoning whatsoever. I stick with my previous statement that the government location is way better. Not sure why it is inconsistent?

I'm pretty easy to please when it come to Mexican food. This outfit couldn't even make my low standards. Expensive. Low quality. Noisy. Bland food. In a word: "insipid." PS: I've heard the other La Carreta in the Red Stick (on Government) is leagues better. Candidly, after the horrible food at the Bluebonnet location, I'm afraid to try.

I don't know if it's because I wasn't really hungry when I ate here, but I was not blown away by this place. After the LSU game, some friend were hungry, so they insisted we go here and eat. I looked over the menu and decided to order an appetizer of flautas as my meal. They were okay, but I really only ate a few because I wasn't "feeling" it. I also had a frozen margarita which totally sucked. It was obviously some kind of weird mix out of a machine. I might go back if I was craving Mexican in BR, but there has to be a better place.

Let me start out by saying that FIRST AND FOREMOST, this has NEVER been one of my places to eat, much less have an adult beverage before a night out on this one horse town. A friend and I decided to go to Happy Hour which was 3 dollar Margarita's - regular and top shelf...so, we decided that we were going to take the 3 minute drive and have a few before 6pm. When we arrived, the place was dead of course and the bar was empty with the exception of dirty dishes on the corner where someone was seated probably NO LESS than an hour ago, which was sick. The second sickness is that the bartender had his FOOT up on the ice machine doing something to his shoe and or his feet, that in itself is totally disgusting and furthermore, not the type of bartender etiquette I expect to see at ANY bar. He then looked at us while we were seating ourselves AWAY from the dirty dishes and my friend asked him to wipe down our section of the bar, and you would have thought that we had asked him to sign a new act of congress. We ordered our $3 top shelf margaritas and had chips and salsa....which were good. Not excellent, but marginal at best. I then asked for a shot of Fireball, which of course they didn't have and this time, a female bartender assisted....wait, let me correct myself...ATTEMPTED to assist me and tell me that they have been out of Fireball for months....and that she thought they only had one bottle. Excuse me? What bar doesn't have Fireball, its the hottest thing in on the shot market currently? Anyway, I digress....back to the bartenders. My water never stayed full and when we were ready to go, I got charged for 3 margaritas and my friend only 1, when we both in fact ONLY had 2 each. No biggie. Whats $9, right? Its the principle. I MAY go back if I am forced or intoxicated, otherwise, you can catch me at Superior Grill or Ninfa's.

One of THE worst restaurant experiences in Baton Rouge I have had. My mouth tastes like soap suds and bad Mexican. The soap suds taste was from my wife's tamales. The bad Mexican taste was from: everything. My rice was hard, the beans tasted like cat food (curious as a kid)....bleah just gross. I have no idea how this place is connected to the other La Carreta on government, but go there. That one has just about the best Mexican in town. Confused and sick to my stomach!

Had a very watery chicken quesadilla. The meat inside didn't look so good. I ended up eating the chips and salsa with the beans and rice for my lunch.

This used to be my favorite Mexican food in town. The quality and service has gone down in the last year or so yet their prices have increased. The food is still worth 3 stars though and service is passable. Fine for a quick bite when you don't want to drive further for better Mexican.

I'm not really a fan of La Carreta. It's not terrible, but it certainly isn't anything special and a bit pricey. The decor is nice and the service is fine, but nothing particularly stands out. If you are craving Mexican, I definitely would not recommend you go out of your way to get here. That being said, I actually do like their Monterrey Fajitas. Also I know a lot of people that really love their queso. The queso honestly makes me feel nauseas, but that could just be me.

La Carreta does business with the company I work for, so myself and some co-workers decided to get a meal there recently. The restaurant is aesthetically very pleasing. It's clean and modern in appearance with a dim, somewhat calm ambiance. The drinks are good as well. Their margaritas were solid and their 3-6 pm happy hour offers great specials on a variety of drinks. The food was probably the least exciting part of the experience but was still good. I had beef enchiladas. I found the beef to have been ground a bit too much, almost like a taco bell consistency but certainly a better taste. Everything arrive hot and in short order. The people there are very nice and I recommend you swing by if you're ever in the area and crave some mexican food.

Probably my "go-to" restaurant in Baton Rouge for mexican food. It is closer to South Baton Rouge than most. Duck quesadillas are really good to start with. I usually get the the alambres or tacos al pastor. Happy hour from 3-6.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
